About Jean

Teaching and encouraging children to reach for a future, to hold respect for themselves and others, to find joy in work and in other people and to find a positive place in their community has always been my priority.  We will share ideas to accomplish this through many avenues, of which Parenting support is the major element.

Working with children has been the focus of my life and I want to continue to do that.  I have lots of experience from my own parenting experiences, my counseling children and their parents as well as from many volunteer efforts.

Michael Popkin, the creative of Active Parenting, (theories and techniques about parenting) has been my leading guide and I hope to share his work with you.

I have worked in both elementary schools and the private sector as a counselor.  Now retired, I previously held a Counseling Licensure in both WVa and NC, a Distance Counseling Certification, and a Counselor Supervision Certification.

You will learn more about the Psychology theorists I most admire by checking out some of the links in my blog.

Psychology Theories I particularly like for working with children

Rudolf Dreikurs-social psychology, which focuses on the influence of society on human behavior.  Undue attention, misguided power, revenge & assumed inadequacy. Focuses on consequences and encouragement as the keys to effective discipline.

Albert Bandura-Social Learning Theory. Self Efficacy- learning new things we like and can do completely.  social cognitive theorytherapy, and personality psychology, and was also of influence in the transition between behaviorism and cognitive psychology. He is known as the originator of social learning theory (renamed the social cognitive theory) and the theoretical construct of self-efficacy,
